Up to $1,158 towards eligible children’s dental careAt Sunrise Dental Surgery, we help families in Endeavour Hills care for their children’s smiles. The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) is an Australian Government program that helps eligible families cover the cost of basic dental services.Eligible children whose two-year benefit period begins in 2026 can access up to $1,158 over two consecutive calendar years, subject to their eligibility and available balance.Is my child eligible?Your child may qualify for CDBS if they:
- Are aged 0–17 for at least one day of the calendar year
- Are eligible for Medicare
- Receive an eligible government payment, or have a parent or guardian who receives one, at least once during the calendar year
Eligible payments include Family Tax Benefit Part A and certain other government payments. You do not need to apply separately for CDBS—Services Australia will notify you if your child qualifies.What dental services are covered?CDBS helps cover a range of basic dental services, including:
- Dental check-ups
- X-rays
- Cleaning
- Fissure sealing
- Fillings
- Root canal treatment
- Extractions
Coverage is subject to treatment restrictions and your child’s remaining benefit balance. CDBS does not cover orthodontic treatment, cosmetic dental work or dental services provided in a hospital.
How does the two-year benefit period work?
Your child’s benefit period starts on 1 January of the year they receive their first eligible dental service.
You can use the available benefit in the first year or spread it across both years. Any remaining balance can be used in the second year if your child remains eligible. Unused funds expire at the end of the two-year period.
The benefit cap is indexed each year on 1 January. An increase applies only when a child’s new two-year benefit period begins that year. It does not increase the balance of an existing period.
